The first Pyrmont yellow block sandstone for nearly 2 decades, just in time to save Sydney’s heritage buildings.
During the early excavation of TWT’s NewLife Pyrmont project, around 20,000 tonnes of yellow block sandstone was uncovered.
It is an exciting discovery, and TWT has a strong commitment to ensuring the smooth extraction of this high-quality sandstone which will provide a substantial reserve for the City of Sydney to assist in the restoration of some of Sydney’s most important historic buildings.

Troy Stratti, Specialised Sandstone Consultant at Bundanoon Sandstone, has a wealth of professional experience and is leading the team at the site who are mining this very rare, very precious yellow block sandstone.
“Such large-scale yellow sandstone is very rare. It is a very important discovery, and will contibute to the restoration of key historic buildings in Sydney for years to come. This yellow sandstone has been here for more than 200 million years, the colour is very pure, the texture is very uniform.” said Stratti.
After the completion of the mining, the yellow block sandstone will be transported to the government designated locations for unified storage.
