Nature is simple yet and clear yet intricate and complex. Our species, the human, is nurtured by the warmth and beauty of nature yet alarmed by its unpredictability and refusal to be controlled. We are caught up in appreciation of the huge powers unleashed in the natural world but desperate to control and leash these powers in the bid for our own survival. These are the contradictions that fascinate and motivate Ruth Green to paint.
Ruth uses the medium of encaustic wax which reacts on its own to heat and flame in a reflection of the powers of the natural world. Creation with encaustic wax is an eerie collaboration between the artist and the energy of the wax itself. The art works evolves as if in a spell calling for engagement with energies outside itself.
