TWT Creative Precinct’s 2018 Block Party returns as part of Art Month Sydney, celebrating one of Sydney’s largest artist precincts with a one-night-only free public art event.
This March, as part of Art Month Sydney, TWT Creative Precinct presents 2018 Block Party, a one-night only, free arts event spread across three blocks in St Leonards on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. The annual event will be held on Friday 23 March from 5pm until 10pm, providing open access for Sydneysiders to experience to the TWT Creative Precinct – home to more than 70 local artists – and a dynamic program of exhibitions, performances, music and workshops for all ages.
2018 Block Party brings to life the TWT Creative Precinct, one of the largest creative workspace precincts in Australia spread across three-blocks in St Leonards between Atchison and Chandos Streets. The event invites guests to follow a trail through the artist studios, to experience an eclectic program of exhibitions, performance, music and workshops. Highlights include: a roller racing event; art market: projected drawing and dance performance; the Lonely Kids Club fashion parade; a chocolate hunt; Spacejunk puppetshow; and live music by Collective Sound.
On the evening, artist Sophi Odling will unveil her latest mural, having created the work on a wall in Atchison Lane in the lead up to the 2018 Block Party. Born 1983 in Seoul, South Korea, Sophi grew up in Sydney. She has created murals in Thailand, Nicaragua and Australia, and has exhibited her work in Tokyo and within Australia. Her new work commissioned by TWT for the 2018 Block Party will be a permanent addition to the precinct.
North Sydney MP Trent Zimmerman will unveil the Sophi Odling mural at the 2018 Block Party, commented:
“The annual TWT Creative Precinct Block Party returns to St Leonard’s this March, inviting local residents to enjoy a free, community-focused event featuring art exhibitions, performances, food and music for all the family.
“I am looking forward to attending the program of exhibitions, performances, music and workshops for all the community and I am particularly excited about the unveiling of a new mural by Sophi Odling in Atchison Lane.
“The TWT Creative Precinct is an exciting and vibrant initiative and it’s a great addition to St Leonards. It’s fantastic to see the reinvigoration of the cultural identity of the lower north shore and the cultural landscape of St Leonards as well as local artists being supported and encouraged,” said MP Trent Zimmerman.
The TWT Creative Precinct opened in 2014, and now offers more than 4,500m2 of subsidised space to the local creative community, making it one of the largest creative workspace precincts in Australia. It provides valuable subsided inner Sydney space for over 70 artists in the fields of visual arts, performance, music and film, to make, exhibit and sell their work.
