On Friday 23 March, TWT Creative Precinct presented the annual Block Party in St Leonards on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.
Key highlights from the evening included the much anticipated unveiling of famous street mural artist Sophi Odling’s mural titled ‘Borderless Mind’, unveiled by North Sydney MP Trent Zimmerman. Sophi’s new work, commissioned by TWT for the 2018 Block Party, will remain a permanent addition to the precinct.
The official opening of the precinct’s very own Chocolatier, Bakedown Cakery chocolate shop captured our taste buds with their delicious and creative handmade chocolate. On the night the chocolate shop carefully prepared a fun Easter Egg Hunt throughout the precinct.
Tanya Pearson Ballet School was a popular highlight. During the Block Party the Tanya Pearson Academy opened its doors for the public to witness some of the students rehearsing a variety of classical and contemporary solos and variations – the wonderful performances attracted continuous applause from the audience.
The galleries and studios in the precinct opened their doors to the public, inviting them to actively participate in creative arts, through the workshops, exhibitions and performances.
Sight by Storm’s latest puppetry work brought together the world of science and fantasy in a family show and a classic arcade brought back the childhood memories of the adults and Lonely Kids Club had a fashion parade of their new Autumn Collection.
Music was a key part of the evening, a jam session with Blue Guitar Project, a project to provide under privileged youth with opportunities to pursue their music dreams.
TWT Creative Precinct opened in 2014, and now offers more than 4,500m2 of subsidised space to the local creative community, making it one of the largest creative workspace precincts in Australia. The Block Party is a free community and arts event that provides open access for Sydneysiders, for one night only, to experience the TWT Creative Precinct – home to more than 70 local artists – and a dynamic program of exhibitions, performances, music and workshops for all ages.
